Department of Science & Technology started the "Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)" program to have bright talents from all over the nation who have an interest in Science. The aim of inspire DST is to evoke a sense of interest in the youth of the nation and create a great pool of resource in the country that will help in expanding the Science, Research and Development base.
Most of the education programs in our country depends on taking competitive exams and based on their result, select students for the programs. Inspire DST does not believe in conducting exams, they rather extract the best talent from the existing educational structure.
Under this program, 10,000 scholarships are provided each year to the students. Each student receives Rs.80,000/- for attaining education at Bachelor and Masters level in the field of science. The student must possess one of the criteria that DST demands for:

- Students amongst the top 1% in 12th standard at Board Examinations are eligible for this program. A necessary requirement is that they must pursue their bachelor and master level in Natural and Basic sciences. This is done to provide more focus on research in Basic sciences.
- Students in the top 10,000 ranks in Joint Entrance Examination of JEE-Advance, JEE-Main (top 10,000 ranks) and those clearing NEET (top 10,000 ranks) are eligible for this program. They must opt for their bachelor and master level in Natural and Basic sciences.
- Students who are admitted to IISER, NISER, DAE-CBS at the University of Mumbai are eligible for this program. Students who took part in National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), and Science Olympiad Medalists, and are looking to undertake courses for bachelor and master level in the Natural & Basic sciences are eligible for this scholarship.
