Are you science student with an outstanding academic history? Do you aspire to take up a career in scientific research? Then the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is the fellowship you should aim for.
Established by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and managed by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; the KVPY fellowship offers science graduates to undertake research studies by providing them with monetary incentives. They are intended to support scientific research in various fields within India at various research institutes.
To be eligible for KVPY Fellowship the student must be an Indian citizen and must be enrolled in full time education. Students enrolled in distance learning course cannot apply for this fellowship. Students studying in Class XI, XII and first year of undergraduate programs can apply for this fellowship provided they are enrolled in science streams.
To submit your application, you need to meet the eligibility criteria which basically encompasses a minimum of 80% and 60% aggregate marks in mathematics and science subjects in the Class X and Class XII. If you are already enrolled in an undergraduate program, then you need to score at least 60% in your first year of undergraduate studies.
Once your application is reviewed, you have to appear for an exam, which is aimed at understanding your aptitude for scientific research. The exam is conducted in an online or offline mode The online exam is conducted in the following cities: Bangalore, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune.
Lastly, the funding body will call the shortlisted candidates for an interview. If the candidates are selected for the fellowship, the candidate will be notified regarding the results through the KVPY website.
If selected, the student not only receives Rs. 5000 per month as funding but also gets an opportunity to visit a science research institute for 2 weeks as a part of the summer program.
