NTSE or National Talent Search Examination is a national level scholarship which gives a golden opportunity to the school going children of Class 10 to bloom to their fullest by getting financial aid in their education. It is one of the renowned and famous Scholarship Exam which is being conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). NCERT being the official conducting body, the scholarship program is recognised by the Government of India as the most renowned and the most difficult examination in the country.
According to the survey every year approximately 14 lakh students take the exam. The students from India & NRI students are eligible to appear in the exam. Lakhs of Candidates appear in the Scholarship exam but only 1000 students receive the scholarship. Getting an award is not necessary; participating in such renowned programs is in itself a great achievement. The applications for NTSE 2015 will begin from July 2015.
The scholarship awarded to those who wish to pursue higher studies in science and social sciences till doctoral level. If in case the candidate pursues any professional course then the scholarship amount is awarded till second degree level subject. The Exam for the scholarship is conducted in two stages: Stage 1 which is conducted by the State/UT and the students who qualify stage 1 appears in stage 2 exam which is conducted by NCERT.
Eligibility: Both male and female students of Class 10 in India & Abroad (NRI students) can participate in the prestigious Scholarship program.
Application: Candidates can purchase the application Form from the State/UT Liaison Officer. Candidate has to fill in the required details in the Application form and the duly filled in application form has to be signed by the Principal of the school. The application fee is different for different states and it has to be paid to the Liaisons officer directly.
Reward: For the students of Class 11 and Class 12 the said amount is Rs. 1250 per month, For those who are pursuing Graduation and Post-Graduation the said amount is Rs 2000 per month and those pursuing Ph.d will receive the amount as per the norms decided by UGC.
Exam Pattern: The Examination will be Consist of Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Ability Test (SAT). Both MAT and SAT contains 50 questions of 50 marks. Duration of both the exam is 45 minutes each. There is negative marking of 1/3 for every wrong answer. The questions are asked from History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. The languages of the Question Paper are Assamese, English, Hindi, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil, Urdu, Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi and Telugu.
Result: The result for the Stage 1 exam conducted announced by the respective state/UT. But the result of NTSE Stage 2 is declared by NCERT.
