Central Board of Secondary
Education (CBSE) is expected to declare the result of National Eligibility cum
Entrance Test (NEET) today i.e. by 20 June 20, 2017 as updated on results.gov.in.
The exam was conducted on 7 May 2017. The NEET result will bring relief to
lakhs of students who are anxiously waiting for the result declaration and
commencement of the counselling process. The counselling process for candidates
who qualify NEET will be supervised by Medical Council of India (MCI).
This year a total of 1,138,890
students appeared for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam
including 1,522 NRIs and 613 foreigners. The anticipation for NEET result is so
high because NEET has replaced all major national and state level medical
entrance exams. Admission to MBBS and BDS courses in all government-aided and
private medical and dental colleges will be through NEET which will be total of
65,000 MBBS and 25,000 BDS seats in medical and dental colleges across India.
Earlier the result was expected
to be out on 8 June 2017 but, The Madras High Court on 24 May 2017 had put a
stay on the declaration of results on finding that while the NEET question
papers for nearly 10.5 lakh students who took the examination in English and
Hindi were same, they were different for those who appeared in the test in
eight vernacular languages - Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese,
Gujarati, Oriya and Kannada. To which CBSE clarified that the decision to set
papers in different languages was meant as a safety measure to avoid conducting
the entire exam again if a particular paper leaked.
To which The Supreme Court
responded by over-ruling the stay that Madras High Court had put and ordered
CBSE to declare the result by 26 June 2017. The Supreme Court also ordered all
high court not to entertain any petition on NEET 2017 as it will delay the
admission process which will put additional burden on students and their family
members. The Supreme Court also said that it will examine if there is need for
uniformity in English and vernacular question papers for NEET.
